The most expensive car in the world is neither a Bugatti not a Rolls-Royce, but a vehicle built by the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. A historic 300 SLR recently set a record sale price. An extremely rare original model of the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé from 1955, one of only two examples from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Collection, was sold to a private collector for 135 million euros.

According to Mercedes-Benz, this makes the classic car the most valuable automobile of all time. This icon of automotive history is an absolute rarity and one of only two prototypes ever made. Named after its inventor and chief engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut, the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé is regarded by automotive experts worldwide as one of the finest examples of automotive engineering and design.

„The 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupés are milestones in the development of sports cars and important historical pillars of our brand,“ says Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Mercedes-Benz Group. „The decision to sell one of the two unique sports cars was carefully considered for a good cause.“ Achieving the highest price ever paid for a vehicle is both an honor and a mission: „A Mercedes-Benz is by far the most valuable car in the world.“
